About Davis Robb Duo
“Davis & Robb Duo" was born in the harsh lock-down of 2020. As a married couple they had busy performing schedules in our own musical worlds: Emily aclassical Violinist and Andrew a jazz double bassist. They rarely had time to play together but during lock-down, they were unable to perform with anyone other than themselves and that’s how the ensemble came to be.
Although excited to play with each other, they realised that there was little available repertoire for this unique chamber music lineup. They didn’t want this to be a barrier to performing together, so they created new, exciting and interesting arrangements themselves. They performed several successfullive-stream duo concerts including one for Chamber Music Scotland, and the success of these gave then confidence to record an album.
They were awarded Creative Scotland funding in 2021 to record and release their debut album, Long Days, Short Nights. This features classical music, the Great American Songbook, folk music from Brazil, Scotland and Norway. They commissioned a new work for the ensemble by Scottish violinist and composer, Catriona Price which is the title track of our album. They believe that chamber music should be musically and representatively diverse, something that’s reflected in the music that they chose to play.
